There was a movie about ‘What A Woman Wants’ and scores of books about what a man or woman want.
This morning, it just dawned on me what Eunice wants is simply me or her Daddy. Be it going down the tunnel slide with her on my laps, playing hide-and-seek with her or reading bedtime stories. She doesn’t need many enrichment classes, really.
Yesterday evening, ZM worked late. So I promised Eunice after our dinner and after Mummy put her (Eunice’s) laundry, wash her bottles and pack her bag for next day, I would bring her to the playground. She was very co-operative and even turned off the TV way before I was ready.
She was so looking forward to playing with the kids at the playground. But alas, the playground was so deserted at 8pm. No kids in sight, just a handful of youngsters sitting around the common area.
So......I thought I could enjoy the evening breeze and watch while she monkeyed around. Instead, she sulked, stood around and complained that nobody wanted to play with her. I kept pushing her to the red ladder or blue slide, but she just wouldn’t budge, saying ‘home is better’. But when I asked if she wanted to go home, she said no. Haiya, the fickle-mindedness of kids!
I finally lifted my heavy bum from the bench and climbed up the ladder. When I wanted to go down the slide, she wanted to sit on my lap. Once down at the bottom of the slide, excitedly she exclaimed, ‘AGAIN!’ I was panting already, you know. But her beam conveyed the simple joy of a 3-year-old.
After playing 2-3 rounds of hide-and-seek, we rested for some snacks and drinks. ZM joined us shortly after and the two monkeys had more fun at the playground.
